Cold storage is a method to preserve raw materials such as food, seafood, meats, fruits, vegetables. The freezing method is used to stop microbe growth or to execute microbes in order to maintain food quality, control decay, keep its freshness and expand shelf life.
5 things to consider before building a cold storage
1- Storage and space The size of the cold storage should be chosen according to the requirements of raw material. Space for cold storage should be compatible. There should be enough space for installation, loading products, or raw materials.
2- Temperature and raw material Raw material stored should be well organized inside cold storage in order to aid access, store, and transfer. The quantity of products stored also affects the room temperature.
3- Ventilation
Storing raw materials for a long period of time and constantly having new products to be stored and removed, may contain unknown substances or cause an unpleasant smell. Therefore, cold storage should have an effective ventilation system in order to maintain the temperature and quality of products.
It must be assured that electricity is constantly delivered at all times with no short circuits. Also, the location of the cold storage is not at the end of the electricity line.
5- Maintenance Maintenance should be done at least once a month in order to examine the capability of cold storage, find breakage or damage by certified engineers only.
