What is Delhi Nagpur Industrial Corridor (DNIC)? Everything you need to know about it.

The Government of India is planning to develop the Delhi-Nagpur Industrial Corridor (DNIC) Project between Delhi and Nagpur proposed with National Highways (being developed under the North-South Corridor of National Highways Development Project) as a backbone and in close vicinity to the North-South DFC future Corridor, utilizing the existing Highway and Dedicated Freight Corridor along this route.

Delhi Nagpur Industrial Corridor(DNIC) Basic Details

The DNIC is proposed to be developed on either side of the National Highway/ N-S DFC, in a phased manner. DNIC is connecting North India and South India. The DNIC will have an influence area across the States of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. With this DNIC Industricla Corridor industries can be brought in Agra, Morena, Gwalior, Guna, Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Betul, and Nagpur in a better way.  The project is progressing at a rapid pace, with the dedicated freight corridor.

Currently, the following DFCs are in an advanced stage of completion:-

  • Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (Ludhiana to Dankuni)
  • Western Dedicated Freight corridor (JNPT/Mumbai to Dadri)

The objective of DNIC would be to optimize the present economic and employment potential of the region, stimulate investments, particularly in the manufacturing, agro-processing, services, and export-oriented units and promote the overall economic development of the area through the creation of high standard infrastructure and an enabling pro-business environment.

According to the project plan, green field industrial cities with multi-modal connectivity will be developed along the corridor.

Future Plan of DNIC –

  1. To realize the vision of a $5 trillion (Rs. 37 lakh crore approximately) economy by 2025, India would need to spend very large sums on infrastructure on a sustained basis. The creation of new and upgrading of existing infrastructure will be the key to raising the Indian economy’s competitiveness. Improved infrastructure capacities will create efficiency gains through improved logistics & networks.
  2. Aspect connectivity while multimodal providing Infrastructure has introduced better synergy and coordinated development between economic zones and industrial nodes. A National Master Plan has been proposed to integrate the Multimodal connectivity.
  3. Infrastructure with the economic zones by incorporating inputs from various Ministries / Departments. Eleven Industrial Corridors have been Identified with 32 nodes/projects proposed to be developed in 04 phases until 2024-25.
  4.
